Mickael Marman (b.1983) is an artist of Norwegian and Gambian descent, currently based in Oslo and Berlin. He has his art education from the Hochschule für bildende Künste (HFBK) in Hamburg, and the Städelschule Academy of Fine Arts in Frankfurt am Main, where he studied under Michael Krebber, Josef Strau and Willem De Rooij. Marman's artistic practice is characterized by a dynamic process involving constant reworking, layering, and deconstruction of images. His exploration of materiality is often influenced by his travels, where he collects material such as photographs and references that are integrated into his paintings. His works exist in a field of tension, resisting easy interpretation while demanding attention and engaging with questions of authenticity, image perception, and meaning-making. In addition to his own studio practice, Marman previously ran the art nomadic project "bbberlin" and organized exhibitions in various his own domestic environment and various venues, including a solo exhibition by Merlin Carpenter - Mutiny, in collaboration with Borgenhem/Rosenhoff ( Oslo) and the group show Having a party (hope you will be there) at CFAlive in Milan. Throughout his career, Marman has had solo exhibitions at 47 Canal (2024), Damien & The Love Guru in Brussels (2020), Neuer Essener Kunstverein in Essen (2018), and Jacky Strenz in Frankfurt am Main (2016). His work has also been featured in group exhibitions such as Home Of The Brave at MMK in Frankfurt am Main (2017) and The Way Things Go Pt 3 at PS120 in Berlin (2018). In Norway, his recent solo exhibitions include Heimweh at Centralbanken/Santolarosa (2022) and Gemälde at Kunstnerforbundet (2023).
